Trump says it is ‘too late’ for Iran to talk to US
President Donald Trump has declared that it is “too late” for Iran to talk to the US, as tensions in the Middle East intensify. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, “Their air defense, Air Force, Navy, and Leadership is gone. They want to talk. I said ‘Too Late!’”
The US president made the remarks while the United Kingdom prepared to deploy a warship to Cyprus to protect RAF Akrotiri from potential Iranian attacks. This move signals an international response to the escalating violence and growing instability in the region.
US-Israel strikes hit Tehran and Beirut
The conflict entered its fourth day as Israeli forces launched heavy strikes on Iran’s Presidential Office in Tehran and key locations in Beirut. Buildings were reduced to rubble, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
“Their air defense, Air Force, Navy, and leadership have been neutralized,” Trump reiterated. He emphasized that Iran’s leadership now faces severe limitations in mounting further military actions.
Numerous munitions targeted offices once used by the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the Supreme National Security Council. Israeli troops have also deployed in southern Lebanon, marking a major escalation in the Middle East conflict.
Military readiness and Trump Doctrine
Trump’s statement followed a Washington Post commentary praising his approach, calling it the “birth of the Trump Doctrine”, comparing it to Reagan’s strategy of projecting power without committing ground troops.
Trump emphasized that the US possesses sufficient military stockpiles to sustain prolonged operations. In another post, he stated there is a “virtually unlimited supply” of American munitions, which could be used to continue the campaign indefinitely.
The president previously suggested that he was not ruling out the possibility of deploying troops on the ground if necessary. “I don’t have the yips with respect to boots on the ground,” Trump said. “I say probably don’t need them, but if necessary, we could use them.”
US-Israel strikes claim senior Iranian leaders
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that 49 of the most senior Iranian regime leaders were killed in the US-Israeli air strikes on Tehran. Leavitt stated, “Killing terrorists is good for America,” framing the campaign as a direct response to Iranian aggression.
Trump also told Atlantic Magazine that Iran “should have taken practical steps earlier” to prevent further escalation. He added that the Iranian leadership had waited too long before expressing interest in negotiations.
UK warship deployment signals heightened alert
In response to the escalating conflict, the UK announced it would send HMS Dragon to Cyprus. This move aims to secure RAF Akrotiri, which recently faced threats following a drone strike allegedly conducted by Iran.
The deployment reflects the growing international concern over the Middle East conflict and the potential for broader regional involvement. Trump’s firm stance and the combined US-Israel military efforts signal that diplomatic options have been largely sidelined.
Regional escalation and Iran’s response
Iran has not issued a public response to Trump’s “too late” remarks but continues to mobilize air and missile defenses. The Tehran air force destroyed reports have heightened fears of further clashes with Israel and US allies in the Gulf region.
Israeli forces have conducted strikes on Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon in retaliation for missile attacks, illustrating the widening conflict across borders.
Impact on Middle East stability
The current escalation has already caused civilian casualties and widespread damage. Several buildings in Tehran, Beirut, and surrounding areas have been destroyed, while military assets on all sides have sustained heavy losses.
Global observers warn that the US-Israel strikes and Iran’s retaliatory attacks could destabilize the entire region. Analysts note that Trump’s aggressive messaging may further harden Iran’s stance, leaving fewer avenues for negotiation.
Trump emphasizes US military superiority
Throughout the conflict, Trump highlighted America’s readiness. He stressed that the US has the capability to continue operations longer than the projected four-to-five-week window, and the military can sustain operations without immediate ground troop deployment.
“This is about ensuring our strategic advantage,” Trump said. “Iran wants to talk, but it is too late. The damage is done.”
