Iran Launches New Wave of Middle East Attacks
Iran launches new wave of Middle East attacks as tensions between Iran and Israel escalate into one of the most serious regional confrontations in decades.
On Monday, the Israel Defense Forces confirmed a new wave of airstrikes targeting strategic locations across multiple Iranian provinces. Israeli officials described the operation as a “large-scale wave of attacks” aimed at weakening military infrastructure and command centers.
The escalation comes more than two weeks after hostilities began on February 28, when a series of major strikes triggered a direct conflict between the two longtime rivals. As both sides continue launching attacks, global leaders are increasingly concerned that the fighting could expand into a wider regional war.
Cities across Iran targeted in latest strikes
Recent airstrikes reportedly targeted infrastructure in Tehran, Shiraz, and Tabriz. Iranian media outlets, including Tasnim News Agency, reported that explosions struck both military and civilian areas.
According to reports, residential neighborhoods in eastern Tehran were hit during the bombardment, leading to casualties and widespread panic among civilians.
Humanitarian organizations say the damage to infrastructure has been extensive. Iran’s Iranian Red Crescent Society reported that thousands of facilities—including schools, hospitals, and homes—have been affected by the fighting.
The destruction of essential infrastructure has raised concerns about a growing humanitarian crisis within the country.
Regional escalation spreads beyond Iran
The conflict has quickly expanded beyond Iran’s borders, increasing instability across the wider Middle East. A Shiite militia group in Iraq, Saraya Awliya al-Dam, claimed responsibility for a rocket attack near Baghdad International Airport.
Reports indicated that the attack targeted a military facility used by United States forces stationed in the region.
Meanwhile, Gulf countries have also faced security threats as the conflict intensifies. Officials in Saudi Arabia reported intercepting dozens of drones targeting oil facilities in the kingdom’s eastern provinces. Authorities in the United Arab Emirates also heightened security following reports of drone threats near Dubai International Airport.
Strait of Hormuz raises global economic fears
One of the most serious global concerns linked to the conflict is the threat to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The narrow waterway connects the Persian Gulf to international markets and is responsible for roughly 20 percent of the world’s oil shipments.
Disruptions to shipping routes have already begun affecting energy markets, raising fears of higher oil prices and potential economic fallout. Former U.S. president Donald Trump has warned that international allies must help protect shipping routes to avoid further disruption.
European governments, including the European Union, are reportedly discussing possible security measures to ensure safe passage through the vital maritime corridor.
Internet blackout inside Iran
Another major challenge for international observers is the ongoing information blackout inside Iran, According to internet monitoring organization NetBlocks, access to online communication platforms has been severely restricted across the country.
The disruption has limited the flow of information about casualties and infrastructure damage. Experts believe the shutdown may also be aimed at preventing domestic unrest and restricting communication among opposition groups.
As a result, the true scale of damage and civilian casualties remains difficult to verify.
Ground operations expand the conflict
While much of the focus remains on Iran, Israeli forces have also intensified operations in neighboring Lebanon. The Israeli military announced limited ground operations targeting positions linked to Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed armed group operating in southern Lebanon.
Military analysts say these operations may be intended to create a buffer zone along Israel’s northern border. However, such actions also risk widening the conflict even further.
International diplomatic efforts
Several global leaders have called for de-escalation, French President Emmanuel Macron reportedly contacted Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian urging restraint and a return to diplomatic negotiations.
Despite these efforts, fighting continues with little indication that either side is prepared to step back.
Israeli officials, including Culture Minister Miki Zohar, have warned that additional military operations could occur if security threats persist.

A region on the brink
As Iran launches new wave of Middle East attacks, the risk of a prolonged regional conflict continues to grow. Each new strike increases the possibility that additional countries could be drawn into the fighting.
With global oil markets tied closely to the stability of the Strait of Hormuz, the conflict now carries economic consequences far beyond the Middle East.
For the international community, the challenge will be finding a path toward de-escalation before the situation spirals into a broader war.
