Monday’s weather: Showers in 5 provinces, severe thunderstorms in Mpumalanga
Monday weather: Showers, Mpumalanga thunderstorms are expected to dominate conditions across parts of South Africa as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) warns of wet weather, isolated showers, and severe thunderstorms in several provinces. A Yellow Level 1 warning has been issued for much of Mpumalanga, where heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and hail could result in localised flooding and infrastructure damage.
The latest weather forecast Monday indicates that at least five provinces will experience showers and thunderstorms, while colder conditions, morning frost, and fog are also expected in several inland areas.
Monday weather South Africa: SAWS issues thunderstorm warning
The South African Weather Service has warned residents in Mpumalanga to remain alert as severe thunderstorms are forecast for most parts of the province, excluding the Lowveld.
According to SAWS, the storms could bring:
- Localised flooding of roads, bridges and low-lying areas.
- Large amounts of small hail.
- Strong and damaging winds.
- Possible damage to homes, settlements and infrastructure.
The weather authority classified the warning as a Yellow Level 1, indicating a moderate risk that requires the public to remain cautious and aware of changing weather conditions.
SAWS explained that its colour-coded warning system is designed to help communities prepare for potentially hazardous weather. While Yellow Level 1 is the lowest impact warning, residents are advised not to ignore changing weather patterns, especially when travelling or participating in outdoor activities.
