Uganda Electric Bus Reaches Botswana: Welcomed by Ambassador

A major milestone for African automotive engineering has been achieved as the Uganda electric bus reaches Botswana. This event marks the first time a Ugandan-made electric vehicle has successfully completed such a significant cross-border expedition into the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The “Made in Uganda Grand Trans-Africa Electric Expedition” arrived in Francistown, Botswana, to great fanfare. Consequently, the Uganda electric bus reaches Botswana having proven that African-designed green mobility solutions are road-ready realities.
How the Uganda Electric Bus Reaches Botswana Successfully
The fully electric Kayoola E-Coach, manufactured by Kiira Motors Corporation (KMC), faced a grueling journey. It departed from Kampala on November 20. Since then, the bus has covered over 4,000 kilometers. It navigated through Tanzania and Zambia before entering Botswana.
Remarkably, the vehicle encountered no major mechanical issues. This durability test confirms why the news that the Uganda electric bus reaches Botswana is so significant for the continent. It validates the commercial viability of Uganda’s automotive sector across diverse terrains.
Uganda’s Ambassador to Botswana, Kintu Nyago, led the diplomatic delegation that received the bus. “The fully electric Kayoola E-Coach has arrived in Francistown. The team was warmly welcomed by Ambassador Kintu Nyago, together with members of the Ugandan community,” Kiira Motors officials confirmed.
Technology Behind the Kayoola E-Coach

This expedition is not just about travel; it is about technology. The bus features advanced systems for real-time monitoring. Furthermore, MTN’s digital backbone powers this connectivity. As a result, engineers in Uganda can monitor the vehicle’s performance instantly.
Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, the Minister of Works and Transport, praised the initiative. “This expedition is not just about driving a vehicle across borders. Instead, it is about driving Uganda’s capacity, skill, and ambition onto the world stage,” Katumba Wamala stated.
Diplomatic Impact as Uganda Electric Bus Reaches Botswana
The arrival of the bus has sparked diplomatic excitement. Upon arrival in Francistown, Ambassador Nyago hailed the team. He noted that the Uganda electric bus reaches Botswana as a symbol of resilience. Moreover, he emphasized that this success sends a powerful signal about Uganda’s ability to drive Africa’s green agenda.
Monica Musenero, the Minister for Science, Technology, and Innovation, agreed. “This bus represents years of research. It is proof that Africa can design, build, and deliver world-class solutions for its own challenges,” Musenero said.
